At time, it is Christian era 2015.

The human who lost around half of the total population underwent a new menace referred to an apostle by the second impact great disaster caused at the South Pole 15 years ago.

Organization of special duty NERV which is the closed organization of the United Nations direct control is opposed to an apostle to hit, and to exterminate it; general-purpose person type decisive battle weapon robot Evangelion(EVA) I develop it for absolute secrecy. It was a boy / a girl of 14 years old that I was chosen as the pilot.

Boy "Sinji Ikari" which is a chief character is the introverted boy who does not like contact with another person from "a trauma in the childhood" and "remote relations with father", but it is elected as a pilot of the EVA first issue airplane suddenly by father Gendo which is a total commander of NERV. It is entrusted with world fate, and the pilots of the EVA including Sinji are driven into the severe situation to fight at the risk of life and are hurt.

The truth of the second impact, the real nature of the apostle to hit and the total picture of "a human supplement plan" pushed forward behind closed doors. The story advances while many mysteries are connected with each other, and chasing a failure and growth of Sinji which is a chief character.
