The controversy on Crunchyroll and TV Tokyo suing youtube anime uploaders

Considering how Crunchyroll started O_O, this news was surprising and ironic to say the least:

Crunchyroll and TV Tokyo have issued a lawsuit against 13 YouTube uploaders for allegedly illegal distribution of anime episodes, according to a copyright infringement complaint filed on May 11 and served between July and September. Crunchyroll and TV Tokyo are seeking reparation for "great and irreparable injury that cannot fully be compensated or measured in money" because of the defendants' allegedly unauthorized copying, uploading, and distributing via YouTube of multiple Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, and Bleach episodes.

Based on their YouTube subscriber information, the defendants reside in the United States, Japan, Canada, Denmark, and Hungary. Crunchyroll maintains its main offices in California (as does YouTube), so the suit was filed as a U.S. copyright violation in the Northern District Court of California. For the purposes of the lawsuit, TV Tokyo is giving Crunchyroll legal permission to act on its behalf in order to "permanently remove the illegal uploads of infringing parties from file-sharing services and to obtain legal relief against infringers."
Crunchyroll also issued a statement in which they seem to back down, given that they don't support or endorse legal actions against anime fans and viewers. For them, "they have identified a few specific accounts on YouTube which were responsible for over 200 million unauthorized streams of our licensed content. These accounts were owned by repeat uploaders who continued to illegally distribute licensed shows despite receiving multiple DMCA takedown notices. In compliance with YouTube's TOS, filing a formal legal complaint was a necessary step in order to keep these illegal streams off of YouTube."

However, is Youtube the place to watch streamed anime episodes anymore?

Tite Kubo: “I’ll Keep Bleach Going For At Least 10 Years”

There it is, from the man himself.

According to Sankakucomplex's site, "Bleach’s author Tite Kubo is apparently set on keeping Bleach going for at least another 10 years, remarking that it is only halfway through.

Kubo’s remarks were reported by 2ch-frequenting attendees of the recently held Jump Festa, where he took the stage to talk about his creation:
“It’s about halfway through the story at the moment.
[...]
At the very least, I’ll be doing it for another 10 years.”

Another version has him being asked “So will you be keeping it going for the next 30 years?” to which he responds “I think I’d like to make it a bit shorter than that,” with the other speaker quipping that “It should be continuing for at least another 10 years!”

Both accounts agree on him saying he is about half done however, which for a 10-year-old title would rather suggest another 10 years to go.

Reactions to all this are mixed to say the least, ranging from enthused to horrified…"

Well.... O_O as long as it doesn't become Dragon Ball GT, I don't know what to think right now, really.

Bleach

Género: Shonen, acción, sobrenatural.

Autor: Tite Kubo.

Bokkuko (tomboy) characters in anime

These types of characters can be quite common in some shonen manga. Bokkuko girls are basically tomboys that serve as sidekicks and can also play the role of the female heroine along with their hero counterpart.

They can be physically slim, with short hair, skinny and flat chested, yet also have particular skills that you would normally expect from their male counterpart. (Shonen manga can be a bit mysoginistic when it comes to delimiting specific roles by gender, so don't shoot the messenger here XD)

At least we know that these delimitations by gender are changing.

Good examples would be Tatsuki Arisawa from Bleach, or Tenten and Sakura from Naruto.

These type of characters have evolved into strong female characters that don't necessarilly have to be the less appealing, quite the contrary, in fact.

Look at Yuzuriha from Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. In the original manga, she would have just been another side character as Marin and Shaina with little to almost no development. But she has a key role in helping her friends to achieve all the misions through Hades' Inferno.

Tite Kubo: "it's common to hate the female antiheroine or heroine"

This is what the author of Bleach said in an interview regarding Orihime Inoue, the second most impopular character in the Bleach fandom, and added that if people don't like his story and how things are developing around the character, then they can choose to not read it.

This is the link to original interview by 2ch, although it is in Japanese and translation is always difficult.

What do you think? I really have nothing against Inoue-san, it's just that they pumped her too much in the anime, pairing her with Ichigo, in a sort of 'princess and the prince' way.

New Bleach movie will open on theaters on December 4th!!

Tv Tokyo has announced that the fourth Bleach movie, titled Gekijouban Bleach: Jigoku-hen, which translates to Bleach: Hell Chapter, will open on theaters in Japan on December 4th. The manga's author, Kubo Tite, is personally supervising the project.

The poster looks spectacular!!

This reminds me a little of the Saint Seiya Hades saga! I think there's a parallel here given that Kubo also loves that manga!

Bleach is scheduled to come back with new episodes in August the special airing of the first two movies; Bleach: Memories of Nobody and Bleach 2: the Diamond Dust Rebellion, starting on August 14, and following on August 21 with episodes 166 and 167.

It's great news since that means that the recent strategy adopted by Viz Media, in which the episodes are simulcasted on Crunchyroll, makes it more likely to be seen worldwide and also to be translated in various languages, including Spanish, which makes for a better distribution. Long gone are the days in which you had to expect months to see your favorite anime episodes!
