Kaichu! web anime is available now!

The first episode of the second Kaichu! web anime series is now streaming. The adaptation of Yuki Hayashi’s school archery club comedy manga revolves around a cross-dressing male archery prodigy. Kaichu! got its first two-episode web anime adaptation last year.

Sailor Moon reprint is a total success, more than 50,000 copies sold out!!

It is even in the NY Times bestseller list!!

Kodansha USA Publishing, the American arm of the Japanese publisher Kodansha, announced on Friday that the English version of Sailor Moon manga volume 1 will get a second print run after the first print run of 50,000 copies "sold out in just four weeks." Kodansha USA did not specify if the 50,000 copies of Naoko Takeuchi's magical girl manga sold out at the distributor level or at the retailer level. 

With the second print run, the volume will have 100,000 copies in print. Kodansha noted that the first volume of Sailor Moon has stayed on top of The New York Times manga bestseller list for a third week in a row since it debuted on September 13. Takeuchi's related Codename: Sailor V volume 1 had two weeks at #2 after debuting on September 13.

Shonen Jump USA will be digital only starting May 2012!

This is quite unexpected, didn't think it would happen so soon.

North American manga publisher Viz Media announced at New York Comic Con on Friday that its Shonen Jump magazine will end publication next March with a "farewell April 2012 issue." Viz announced the print magazine's end in conjunction with the unveiling of its successor — the digital anthology Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha.

At least three of the manga titles in Shonen Jump's most recent print issue (October/November 2011) will continue in the digital Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha next January: Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. Shonen Jump has been publishing Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Toriko, and Bakuman. online since 2010 with a supplement only available to print magazine subscribers.

Wow I really loved to collect the print version :-(

Shonen Jump USA edition started in 2002, due to the growing popularity of anime and manga series outside of Japan.

At least the advantage I see is that its format will be weekly instead of monthly!

Fairy Tail Adventure Manga Gets Film Next August!!

About time!

The email newsletter for Kodansha's Comic Plus members revealed on Wednesday that a film adaptation of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga will open next August.

More details will be provided in future postings of the newsletter.The manga and the ongoing television anime follow the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail.

In addition to the television series, three original anime DVDs have been bundled or will be bundled with the manga.Del Rey published the 12th volume of the original manga in North America last September, and Kodansha resumed publishing the manga in English with the 13th volume this past February. Crunchyroll streams the television anime into several countries as it airs in Japan, and Funimation will release the first DVD/Blu-ray set in November.

Manga Creator Kei Aoyama Passed Away at 32

The television station TBS reported that manga creator Kei Aoyama was found dead, hung from his neck, in the bathroom of his Tokyo apartment on October 9. He was 32.There were no visible signs of wounds or a struggle in the bathroom, and the last posts on Aoyama's Twitter account, dated October 6, discussed mortality, including a final post that said:Well, I have much left to do and much I dreamed of doing, but I hardly have any "regrets." I am content with the 32 years I have lived.

The police are investigating Aoyama's death as a possible suicide. The police had received an emergency call around 9:00 p.m. on October 9 from a person at the Japanese publisher Kodansha, who said, "We haven't been able to contact Mr. Aoyama."

The police rushed to Aoyama's apartment, where they discovered him in the bathroom.Aoyama was serializing the manga Yoiko no Mokushiroku in Kodansha's Evening magazine from last year to the time of his passing.

He also created or drew the manga SWWEEET in Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine, China Girl, and Strobe Light. According to the police investigation, Kodansha was not able to contact Aoyama since October 6.

Toaru Majutsu no Index movie announced!

It was about time! The inevitable!

Seemingly long overdue, the homepage for the Toaru Majutsu no Index anime franchise has formally announced the development of an “Index” motion picture.

Author Kazuma Kamachi’s sci-fi/fantasy adventure light novel series has spawned two hit TV series adaptations and a successful spin-off TV series and OVA.

Naruto is the series that gets the most empathy from its audiences!

So, this is from the results of last month's Superpoll of the Month, in which readers were asked:

If your life was an anime series, what series it would be?

With 402 votes, Naruto came out on top with 104 votes, followed closely by Bleach with 90 votes, and curiously enough, Blue Exorcist has 77 votes, despite being a new series, while the other two have been running for a decade.

Well, we've all seen Naruto's struggles, solitude and alienation and his humanity, his failures, his ticks are all what make us care for him deeply and root for him to be the village's hero.

I initially thought that One Piece would win hands down due to its popularity, but it is quite there with Full Metal Alchemist, Fairy Tail, and Soul Eater.

Kuroshitsuji and Gintama came in the same place. And Death Note deserves a special mention with 50 votes, (who doesn't identify with either L-kun or Kira-sama?)

It's still interesting to note that a classic series like Dragon Ball didn't garner more votes, with even D.Grayman getting 8 more votes.

Sailor Moon Tops Graphic Novel Sales in US Bookstores!

A proof that classics never die!

Naoko Takeuchi's return to North American shelves put the first volumes of her Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V manga at the top of Nielsen BookScan's top 20 graphic novels in American bookstores in September.

They even pushed Naruto volume 52 down to #3!

The other manga in the top 10 are Black Bird volume 10 (#6), Bleach volume 36 (#8), and the 26th and penultimate volume of Fullmetal Alchemist (#9). Dance in the Vampire Bund volumes 7 (#12), 6 (#13), and 9 (#17); Grand Guignol Orchestra volume 1 (#15); Omamori Himari volume 1 (#18), and Ultimo volume 2 (#20) round out the manga in the top 20.

The BookScan rankings represent sales at Barnes & Noble and other book chains, independent bookshops, and online purchases — but not sales at comic book stores, Walmart, and some other venues.

New Hanasaku Iroha Work in 2012 Confirmed

The Hokkoku Shimbun paper confirmed on Monday that the production committee of the Hanasaku Iroha television anime series announced that it is producing a "new visual work" of Hanasaku Iroha next year.

The production committee did not specify if the new work will be released on television, on video, or in theaters, or even if the work will be animated.This would be interesting for this series that unexpectedly got succesful.

The story centers around Ohana Matsumae, a 16-year-old Tokyo native who suddenly ends up working at a provincial hot spring inn after her mother flees town to avoid debts.

There will be a crossover episode of Bakuman and SKET Dance!!

And no, it won't be one, but three crossover episodes!!

The 43rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday that the Bakuman. anime and Sket Dance anime will collaborate for three crossover episodes.

 Two episodes will run in October, and one will run in November, but no further details about the episodes' release dates or story have been announced. Weekly Shonen Jump will publish the next announcement, including information about the character or characters who will hold the key to the crossover, on October 24.

This could be the start of a new trend in filler episodes, actually.

Code: Breaker anime announced!

Weekly Shonen Magazine has announced the development of an anime based on Akimine Kamijyo’s current manga series Code:Breaker.

The 2008 and ongoing manga from the creator of Samurai Deeper Kyo revolves around a high school boy who moonlights as a mercenary. Del Rey Manga published two volumes of the manga in English last year.

Blue Exorcist movie is in the works!

Jump SQ magazine will give more details this week but it is confirmed!

 'The November issue of Jump Square Magazine that goes on sale in Japan next week will formally announce the development of an Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) motion picture. The TV series has been simulcasting online, and Aniplex USA will begin distributing the TV series on American DVD next month.'

 If it's in the works already, it could be out by next year! :)

A Quick Overview of the series in this new anime season October 2011!

Last season was full of surprises and great shows as well as few failures.

This new season that begins in October doesn't bring much novelty in regards to new shows, but there are new shows that are promising!

The highlights are the new season of Bakuman and the return of Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi! 

Bakuman season 2: 

Premiere Date: October 1

Our protagonists are on the verge of publication and new challenges arise!


The Pros: the great story, animation and pacing that follows the manga arc.

The Cons: lack of promotion by NHK

Guilty Crown

It will premiere on the Nnoitamina block, the story is set in 2039 and revolves around Shū, a boy who has acquired an ability called the "power of kings" that allows him to draw out weapons from another person. He joins a resistance group named "Undertaker" which aims to restore Japan's independence from an international organization known as the GHQ.

The Pros: from the trailers, the animation looks great, the premise is ok.

The Cons: if it drags out too much, it could have the same fate as Deadman Wonderland.

Premiere date: October 13

Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi season 2 


The Pros: deliciously unique series with great relationship plots, the guilty pleasure of fujoshis everywhere!! Bishonen-ai!


The Cons: huh?? 

Premiere date: October 7

Working!! 

Based on the four-koma manga, it concerns the activities of the unusual employees at the Wagnaria family restaurant, the fun will ensue!

The Pros: yes, more comedy! It seems to be the new trend.

The Cons: a good comedy series rarely fails, though there's always the possibility it will.

Premiere date: October 1

Un-go! 

There is quite the mystery around this one, it will also premiere on Nnoitamina slot. Its production values are already high with their opening theme done by School Food Punishment, 'How to go', while the ending theme is "Fantasy" by LAMA.

The Pros: did I mention that this is done by the Full Metal Alchemist original staff??

The Cons: there's not much info, this could be the underdog horse which we all know what happens when it wins. The series is based on a light novel set on the Meiji era with a detective theme.

Premiere date: October 13

Ben-to 

Also based on a light novel, the story revolves around a poor high school student named Yo Sato. Sato goes one day to the supermarket and finds a bento (lunch box) for sale at half price.

The Pros: looks really cute from the trailers. I hope the story's quality exceeds it.

The Cons: people that hate moe.

Premiere date: October (TBA)

Yuri Seijin Naoko san 

The other guilty pleasure of the season for yuri lovers.

The Pros: it could have the same success as Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, if the plot doesn't revolve much around yuri, but actually stories.

The Cons: precisely because of the theme, it could not last long. It's a gamble.

Premiere date: November 30

Phi Brain- Kami no Puzzle 


The adventure series is about two high-schoolers that challenge dangerous “philosopher’s puzzles”.

The Pros: the promotion has been around for a year now. The artwork and animation looks pretty good for the trailers.

The Cons: will it go the same way as Kamisama no Memochou?

Premiere: October (TBA)

Bleach 

The Pros: the great fan expectation over when the new arc post-Aizen will be animated. The last Kageroza arc, though a filler, was well animated with good fights at the end.

The Cons: the fillers!! It seems they will have us with one year of fillers!

Naruto Shippuden

The Pros: this show has been through such up and dows that it's part of their charm. Really, it's a classic show!

The Cons: More fillerology until they finally decide to catch up!

One Piece 

The Pros: over 500 episodes make this anime among the legendary. The most read manga in the world will always keep this show alive.

The Cons: well, the usual. Fillers and tons of haters.

Beelzebub:

The Pros: this show has really grown strong, it's already going the path of the classic. The characters and situations in these last episodes have been nothing short of epic histerical. The animation quality has improved to a standard.

The Cons: really? There are no cons?

Gintama 

The Pros: After a long break, this show returned on January stronger than ever. The great advantage that both this show and Beelzebub have is that they can have their own filler episode without straying from the manga since it's comedy.


The Cons: frankly, nothing

SKET Dance

The Pros: this series is going strong to the point that it's on crossovers with Gintama and now Bakuman.

The Cons: there isn't any except if they stick to lame episodes for too long, which I don't it would happen.

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyo

The Pros: I can say that this show has quietly become the strongest show of the season without making much of a fuss. The outstanding quality of the story and the animation has endured greatly.


The Cons: I kinda wish that this series would be a continuous one instead of per season, but that would decrease the quality, wouldn't it? Who really wants Nuramago fillers? Yuck.

Ranma 1/2 gets a live-action special!!

Great news on this classic series!

A live-action television adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma ½ martial arts comedy manga will air this December as a two-hour special on Japan's NTV network. Yui Aragaki (Digimon: Data Squad, Koizora) will play Akane Tendō, and Kento Kaku (Paradise Kiss, Gokusen) and Natsuna (Gantz) will play the dual male/female sides of the title character Ranma Saotome.

Shaman King manga returns to Jump Kai magazine!

Creator Hiroyuki Takei of Ultimo fame returns to his renowned manga Shaman King with a 44-page short story, a 'zero story' around the protagonist Yo Asakura.This story is set to come out in November 10 in Jump X (Kai) magazine by Shueisha.

The "zero story" will be the first in a series on short manga stories launching in the magazine.
